The active compounds in Oregano Essential oil are thymol and carvacrol, These natural plant chemicals are also used in products like Listerine which originally was used as surgical antiseptic. Oregano Essential oil combats viruses by boosting the immune system. Oregano Essential Oil is available in liquid and capsule form. Most Oregano Essential Oil is highly concentrated, thus when using it internally, start with low amounts, like one to two drops two times daily in juice. Take one drop twice per day working your way up to one drop four times daily. Mix with one teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or olive oil to improve palatability. Take for up to 15 days and then stop for 15 days. Repeat the process. The optimal way to take Oregano Essential Oil internally is under the tongue, You can also apply it to the skin, as long as it is mixed with a carrier oil, such as olive oil or even unrefined coconut oil, the usual concoction is 50/50.

Oregano Side Effects

Oregano side effects are minimal, but allergic reactions to oregano oil and a sensitivity to plants in the same family (thyme, basil, hyssop, marjoram, mint, sage) can occur. Oregano Essential Oil is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you take Oregano oil with blood thinning drugs your blood pressure may drop too low and your blood may become too thin. It should not be applied in full potency to the skin. Oregano Essential Oil may subdue the absorption of iron, therefore take the oregano oil at least two hours before or after taking iron supplements.
